How to use the D&D dice roller

  1. Tap the die you need, from d4 up to d100, and set how many to roll.
  2. Add the modifier from your sheet, and switch to advantage or disadvantage for d20 checks.
  3. Tick Drop the lowest die when rolling ability scores the 4d6 way.
  4. Press Roll dice and read each die plus the total.

The polyhedral set and what each die is for

Every die in the standard set has an average roll of half its size plus a half, which is worth knowing when you weigh up weapons and spells.

What advantage really gives you

Advantage rolls two d20 and keeps the higher, and the numbers behind it are exact: across all 400 possible pairs the kept die averages 13.825 against 10.5 for a single roll, a gain of 3.325. Disadvantage mirrors it at 7.175. The famous edge cases move even more: a natural 20 arrives 9.75 percent of the time with advantage instead of 5, and only 0.25 percent with disadvantage. This roller shows both dice with the kept one highlighted, so the table sees the same maths happen.

Rolling ability scores

The classic method rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest die, which this roller does with the drop the lowest option. Dropping the low die lifts the average score from 10.5 on a plain 3d6 to about 12.24, which is exactly why the method produces heroes rather than commoners. Roll six times for a full array, then copy the set for your sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Which dice can I roll

The full polyhedral set, d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100, one at a time or many at once with a modifier added to the total.

How do advantage and disadvantage work

On a d20 check the tool rolls two dice and keeps the higher for advantage or the lower for disadvantage, showing both so the table can see the roll.

Can I add a modifier

Yes. The modifier is added to the total after the dice are summed, so 1d20 plus 5 or 2d6 plus 3 work as written.

Are the rolls fair

Yes. Every face has the same chance on each roll, drawn from the browser cryptographic random source, and rolls do not depend on the last.

Is it free

Yes, free and with no sign up. Every roll runs in your browser and nothing you enter leaves your device.
