How to use the classroom picker

  1. Set the class size, so numbers run 1 to N like your register.
  2. Press Pick a student. Called numbers are held back automatically.
  3. Use picks per press for pairs or trios, and reset for the next lesson.

Why held back calling is fairer

Calling students with pure chance leaves a surprising share of the class untouched. Make as many random picks as there are students and, on average, more than a third of them are never called once, while others are called two or three times.

This picker removes each number as it is called, so every student is called exactly once before anyone repeats. The count of called and remaining stays on screen, which also answers the who has not gone yet question at a glance.

Cold calling that stays kind

Random calling works best when it is predictable in format and unpredictable in name: tell the class the picker chooses, give thinking time before the number is drawn, and let a called student pass the question onward rather than stall. Because the tool shows its history openly, students see that being picked is chance, not targeting, which keeps the practice fair in fact and in feeling.

Pairs, trios and other draws

Set picks per press to 2 or 3 to draw discussion pairs or lab trios in one go, each drawn from the students not yet called. To split the whole class into teams at once, the group assignment generator shuffles the full list, and the number picker adds a spinning reveal for whole class moments.

Frequently asked questions

How does the classroom picker help

It calls a random student number and remembers who has already been called, so nobody is picked twice until you reset.

How do I set the class size

Enter the highest number in the numbers 1 to field. A class of 30 uses 1 to 30, matching a register or seat numbers.

What happens when everyone is called

The tool tells you the class is done and waits for a reset, which clears the called list for the next lesson.

Can I see who has been called

Yes. The called numbers are listed with the latest highlighted, and you can copy or export the list.

Is it free

Yes, free and with no sign up. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter leaves your device.
